History
Creation
The cooperage is created in Saint-Romain by Joseph François, grandfather of Jean François.
The second generation
Robert and Henri François continue their father's trade. They found the company François Frères Cooperage in 1942.
The third generation
With the arrival of Jean François, the third generation takes on the role of developing the family business. The special relationship with and close proximity to the French producers, and particularly the Burgundians, is reinforced.
International development
Jean Francois and his wife Noëlle François take over day-to-day operations at the cooperage and develop international sales. The first François Frères barrels appear in Italy at the winery of Angelo Gaja and others cross the Atlantic to reach the Robert Mondavi cellars in California.
New installation at Saint-Romain
The cooperage modernises the working facilities and sets up on the edge of Saint-Romain.
Artisanal exports "grand prix"
The cooperage wins the "Grand prix de l'Exportation artisanale". International development continues. Rosemount Estate (Australia) orders its first casks and the Catena family imports the first barrels to Argentina.
TFF Group
Jean and Noëlle François' son Jérôme François joins his parents to participate in the diversification and international expansion of the TFF Group. He is the fourth generation to take up the torch.
Expansion
The cooperage ensures the supply of top-quality wood when it acquires "Tronçais Bois Merrain" in the Allier (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), and then SO.GI.BOIS, the leading producer of staves in France.
Creation of Joseph François (wooden vassels fabrication)
Creation of Joseph François in order to produce a wider range of containers.
